Definition
A gene is a genomic region whose activity contributes to the production, regulation, or modification of biological processes within a larger developmental and organisational context. In APS, genes are not autonomous instructions or blueprints but components of viability-oriented systems whose effects depend upon the organisation in which they participate.
In Brief

A gene is a functional component of developmental and regulatory organisation.
