Organised persistence should not be confused with mere survival or duration. A rock may persist for centuries without actively maintaining itself. Living systems persist differently. They continually regulate, repair, adapt, and reorganise themselves in relation to changing conditions. Persistence is therefore an achievement of organisation rather than simple endurance through time.
